Never Stop Learning
Mozart once said “It is a mistake to think that the practice of my art has become easy to me. I assure you, dear friend, no one has given so much care to the study of composition as I. There is scarcely a famous master in music whose works I have not frequently and diligently studied.”
When I read that earlier today I was reminded of something that happened several years ago.
I was a student at the time and someone asked me what I was studying. I told him Music Composition. He laughed and said “I don’t think that is something you can learn through studies. Either you are born with an ability to compose or you are not!”. Such a sad and ignorant comment...
There is always more to learn, more things to study. Not only in music, but in life itself. May I never think I have “arrived” when it comes to composing, but keep learning and exploring. May I never become so comfortable in life that I stop pursuing growth.
